Waldorf Astoria Park City

\n\n\n\n

The Waldorf Astoria Park City is a luxurious ski resort in Park City, Utah. It's well known for its modern take on the classic mountain lodge aesthetic and its world-class amenities. In this blog post, we'll review the hotel, its amenities, and offer a few tips for making the most of your stay. This was our first real vacation of 2020 out of several trips we had planned, and our first website review.

\n\n\n\n

Park city is a huge ski destination, especially around Christmas and New Years. We booked this trip as part of a non skiing Christmas Vacation

\n\n\n\n

No complimentary airport shuttle is offered, but they will arrange one for you on request. The shuttle runs regularly to downtown for shopping and restaurants Uber/Lyft is available starting around $50 each way.

Hotel & Room

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Room

\n\n\n\n

The 1 Bedroom suite is a great option for a family of 4. It includes a regular King bed hotel room connected to the main living area. The main living has a sofa sleeper (very comfortable), dining table, gas fireplace, and balcony. The full sized kitchen has a fridge, microwave, gas stove, espresso maker and all the dishes, pots, pans, etc. A hallway has another bathroom (2 total) and a washer/dryer. For more info on the room see the Waldorf Astoria Park City accommodation page.

Pool & hot tubs

\n\n\n\n

This was our kids favorite part of the stay, and something we used (or tried to use) every day of our stay. The Waldorf Astoria Park City pool/hot tub area is in the center section of the hotel with half the rooms overlooking the area. There is a large pool and 2 large hot tubs, and with heated pavement areas around the pool to keep ice and snow from sticking. It is a nice looking area when its covered with snow with stream coming off the pool

\n\n\n\n

The pool is supposed to be heated to 89 degrees all winter and we were looking forward to using it, but it was much colder than that. Our kids tested it several times a day when we walked by, waiting for it to warm up. We only saw a few other people in it during our stay, all kids, and not for very long.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

There were issues with the main hot tub most of our stay, it only worked intermittently for 1 day of our stay. We would have used the pool and hot tubs much more if we had been able to.

\n\n\n\n

Restaurants & Services

\n\n\n\n

Restaurant

\n\n\n\n

We only ate at the Waldorf Astoria Park City's restaurant, Powder, one morning for breakfast. For Diamond members the hotel offers $15 per person for 2 people as a breakfast credit. Because we had a full kitchen we ate breakfast in our room most mornings.

\n\n\n\n

You can take the gondola across the street to the canyons village which has several restaurants. The shuttle will drop you off around 5th and Main Street in downtown Park City which is 10-15 minutes away. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes starting late afternoon.

\n\n\n\n

Valet

\n\n\n\n

Valet did a great job, they were always there and quick to bring up the car. There was always someone at the front door to open it or help with the luggage.

\n\n\n\n\n\n

Christmas

\n\n\n\n

For Christmas there was a table in the lobby where kids could write letters to Santa. Our kids did this, and on Christmas Eve someone from the hotel brought back Santas reply to them, including some candy.

\n\n\n\n

Smores

\n\n\n\n

There were also smores kits at the front desk that you could get and cook at one of the gas fire pits around the hotel.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Sledding

\n\n\n\n

There is a golf course / construction area across the street with some small hills, and after a couple days we noticed a stack of sleds by the valet area. We were able to borrow these and go sledding.

\n\n\n\n\n\n

Areas for improvement

\n\n\n\n

For the negatives, the pool temperature could be much warmer in winter. And the hot tub had issues most of our stay. However, there were also a few times when the service wasn’t what you’d expect for a 5 star hotel.

\n\n\n\n

For instance: We called guest services to ask about a kitchen utensil at one point and never received it, then called for ice and never received it. Called valet for the car and the valet was waiting outside but hadn't got the message about the car. Someone elses luggage arrived around 9pm to our room.

\n\n\n\n

These were all pretty minor things. However, for the price of this hotel things should run pretty smoothly

\n\n\n\n

Conclusion

\n\n\n\n

We had a great stay here! Every employee we met was very nice and helpful, even though the message didn't always get to the right person,. We always try to visit somewhere new, but would return to the Waldorf Astoria Park City if we get the chance.
